McMINNVILLE BREAKFAST ROTARY CLUB
Meetings on Tuesday at 7:00 AM
McMinnville Breakfast Rotary announces the newest project, called "Ollie The Otter" Booster Seat program. We are excited that this project also won a District Simplified Grant to purchase Booster Seats. On July 1, 2004, Tennessee strengthened the Child Passenger Restraint Law. This law states that children age four through eight, and measuring less than four feet nine inches (4'9") in height, must be secured in a belt-positioning booster seat system. Statistics on deaths and injuries shows that this law is not being followed or enforced. The Tennessee Road Builders Association (TRBA) has launched a state wide educational program. Breakfast Rotary has accepted responsibility to present the educational program to the eight elementary schools in Warren County and to funding approximately 100 Booster seats, with the help of the District Simplified Grant. The picture at the right shows "Ollie The Otter" measuring children to see if they should be in a booster seat. Assisting Ollie is Carol Coleman, the originator of the program for the TRBA. Carol lost several family members in accidents on the Tennessee highways and decided to make a difference for the lives of children. TRBA hired Tennessee Tech Business Media Center to promote the program across the state. For more information see the web site http://www.trba.org/ollie . Breakfast Rotary is privileged to be working with the Tennessee Tech Business media Center, the TRBA, Tennessee Technology Centers and the Warren County School Systems to implement the important program for all of our Tennessee children and their families.
